The fourth and final season of UnREAL was ordered by Lifetime on July 28, 2017. A month later, it was announced that the season would consist of 8 episodes instead of the usual 10. The season chronicles an all-star season of Everlasting, bringing back several famous contestants from the show's history.
The season was surprise released on July 16, 2018 by Hulu, which had bought it from Lifetime. Therefore, it was branded as a Hulu Original.
